Established in 1991, the School encompasses three departments viz. Dept. of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology under one umbrella for M.Sc. courses. The school is located in the beautiful campus of KBCNMU with an area of 26353.17 sq. ft. and a total laboratory area of 13,500 sq.ft. A large two-story phase III construction is also underway recently inaugurated by the renowned scientist- Prof. M. S. Swaminathan. The School has most qualified faculty members and is equipped with sophisticated Central Instrumentation Facility, which comprises of state-of-art instrumentation for life sciences research.
Other individual and specialized laboratories like Plant Tissue Culture, Cyanobacteria, Probiotics, Siderophore, Biofuel, Fermentation, etc. are also integral part of the School. Digital Library with high-end computers connected parallel to University's VSAT and 2 MBps Internet facilities. The School further has Green House facility, 6 PG laboratories (2 for each department), 2 walk-in cold rooms and sub-zero refrigeration facilities.

As per eligibility conditions, B.Sc. students are eligible to apply for the admission to M. Sc. in Microbiology, Biochemistry & Biotechnology.
  1. Eligibility :
    As per eligibility conditions, B.Sc. students are eligible to apply for the admission to M. Sc. in Microbiology, Biochemistry & Biotechnology.
  2. Criteria :
    Selection is based entirely on candidate's percentage of marks obtained at the graduation, preferences given by the candidate and availability of the seats.
  3. Procedure :
    For admission to all the three M.Sc. programs, an advertisement is published in some leading newspapers in the month of May / Jun every year. The application procedure is online and centralized for all Post Graduate courses run on University campus. The admission procedure is quite transparent. Information brochure, provisional and final merit lists, schedule of admission, list of final allotments, etc. is displayed at University website as per schedule.

  • The Research and Development Section shall be responsible to plan development of the University, both physical and academic and it shall conduct academic audit of the University departments, institutions, colleges and recognized institutions. It shall also plan, monitor, guide and co-ordinate under-graduate and post-graduate academic programmes and development of affiliated colleges.
  • The Section shall actively establish collaboration with National and International institutions, industry, business and commercial organizations.
  • The Section shall suggest measures to create links and develop specific schemes of inter-university and university and college interaction with industry, agriculture, banks, commerce and community.
  • The Section shall prepare University and College perspective development plan, both short-term and long-term, keeping in view the objectives of the university as laid down in the Act, and with due regard to the State and National educational policy.
  • The Section shall recommend to the Management Council the development and collaborative programmes for the departments, colleges and the University.
  • The Section shall monitor and report the progress of all such approved development and collaborative programmes to the Management Council.
  • The Section shall evaluate and assess the use of grants by University departments, post-graduate centres, and colleges in respect of development of projects and submit the report to the Academic Council.
